Happy Easter everyone!

This is my Easter tree made out of a candlestick (with the candle spikes sawn off because they invited the mother of all wax spillages every time candles were perched on them and lit), Humpty Dumpty eggs (painstakingly reassembled last year out of broken bantam egg-shells with glue and tissue paper shell-grafts and painted in thick acrylic paint to hide the joins), flowery fairy lights (that I've had for ages and never found a use for) and some pom-pom chicks in ridiculous colours to sit on the places where the candles are designed to go. Why the crazy colours, I hear you ask? I'm asking myself that today too! Well, I was running short of yellow yarn and it seemed a good idea at the time late yesterday when I was putting it together and the candle saucers were empty and needed peopling. Not so sure with hindsight that the multi-colour flock was one of my better ideas but they have a certain pastel appeal that is enhanced somewhat through the perspective of a glass of wine! There is a psychedelic pale purple one at the back that fortunately is out of sight. He looks as though he has been seriously overindulging in something or other and is in need of a restorative as well as a drastic haircut! Fortunately though, as I say, he is out of sight behind a strategic flowery fairy light!
Well, I thought he was! But clearly his friend has other ideas! |

Anyway I hope these have made you smile and that your day has been and is full of Easter blessings .... as well as the odd chocolate egg or two!
LOL! Love those happy chicks!
ReplyDeleteThe chicks are brilliant! Can you do a tutorial on them??? Were they hard? Bella would love a little project like this! I'm thinking white pompom snowmmen at Christmas...
ReplyDeleteFab tree, full of colour. Happy Easter to you! xx
Glad you like the crazy chicks! They were very simple and quick to make - I have a pom-pom-making kit (given to me nearly 40 years ago and still going strong) which simplifies things but you can just make them using a double ring cut from cardboard that you wind the wool around. I used two sizes of pom-pom, a bigger one for the body and a small one for the head. The beaks are just snippings of felt and the eyes are beads glued on with PVA glue. I used a cotton yarn which is what I had in the pastel colours and the pom-poms have come out really fluffy using this. A family of snowmen were made using the same kit and just some very ordinary white acrylic yarn some years ago by H and me and they come out every Christmas. The snowmen have those squiggly eyes which makes them look slightly cross-eyed but rather engaging! Will post a pic next Christmastime and you can see what you think! E x
DeletePerfect, thanks so much, that is all the info i needed. Pom pom snowmen here we come! Gillian x

We've been lying low, with another bug and trip to the out of hours doc, oh well sure at least we are off work and spending the time together, even if it is waiting on the doc at 8.30am on Easter morning!
ReplyDeleteLove the Easter decorations, bright and colourful especially when the weather is the opposite!

So sorry you have had a bit of a chequered Easter weekend - really hope your little one is on the mend and will soon be bouncy again. So glad you like the apron - I live in my aprons at home & have to be careful to remember to take them off before going out! xxx E
