A couple of years ago when we were in the midst of the drought here in the Pacific Northwest there was an article in the paper about people in Seattle where there had been a record number of days of sunshine - they were suffering from Seasonal Affective Disorder in the reverse of most - too much sun and not enough gloom! As to your pantry - I believe I now have 'jar envy' for your many Weck jars! It is very satisfying on several levels to have a pantry full of foods we put up ourselves. I wonder if it is some primal instinct to prepare for the winter that makes it so? I will wish for you many blue skies!Kathyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18209722078916803400noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7270442039937122804.post-53407357530036608032017-11-11T22:35:24.692+00:002017-11-11T22:35:24.692+00:00Beautiful and impressive preserves and blue blue s...Beautiful and impressive preserves and blue blue sky! I love November! Autumn finally begins, the air is cool and crisp. I plan fun things to do--a new quilt project or knitting, light scented candles, have my first cup of hot Earl Grey tea; I try to feed and walk my pug earlier, we end up at the beach at sunset if all goes as planned. I cook soups, and goulashes, go to the marsh to cut bittersweet, wear the mittens I made back in July, put flannel sheets on the beds. The beach is glorious, health permitting I walk there daily. And I love Thanksgiving, being with my family and also remembering Cape Cod Thanksgivings long ago, when we'd drive to all the Pilgrim landing sites while the turkey cooked, and wonder how the travelers felt, landing in such a beautiful place. [prob politically incorrect now, but part of my heritage...?]. Joy is where one looks for it.

lizzy at gone to the beach

lizzzz.d@gmail.comLizzy Dhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13925662100321427762noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7270442039937122804.post-44106482397787725302017-11-11T14:16:25.186+00:002017-11-11T14:16:25.186+00:00Thank you! You are right though, preserving like this is much more time-consuming than the bung-it-in-the freezer method and you have to take a certain amount of care over the process but I'm a bit of a convert now! Happy Birthday for when it comes! C'est un besoin qui vraiment aujourd'hui est un peu absurde mais je le ressens tout de même! Bon week-end à toi et la famille aussi, Christiane! The only disadvantage is devoting the time to preserving, instead of freezing smaller quantities as and when.
The autumn winter darkness doesn't worry me, perhaps because I have a November birthday so have plenty of happy memories of the month, even if the excitement levels are rather less now. I have noticed that when the clocks go back, the dog gets a cursory walk after breakfast and a second walk later in the day when the sky is more likely to be blue than grey.
Enjoy the fruits of your labours - taste and sight.
Bon week-end Elizabeth !
